Saandru

What is Saandru? The Tamil word for proof, on every certificate

சான்று means proof. Add இதழ், a leaf, and you get சான்றிதழ்: a certificate. That small piece of Tamil is the whole idea behind the product.

Gives us
சான்றிதழ் (saandrithazh), certificate

In Tamil, சான்று (saandru) is the word you reach for when a claim needs backing. It means proof or evidence, and it is used for testimony too: whatever stands behind a statement and shows that it is true.

Join it with இதழ் (ithazh), a petal or leaf, and you get சான்றிதழ் (saandrithazh), the everyday Tamil word for a certificate. Read literally, a certificate is a leaf of proof. Tamil uses the word for every kind of certificate: a birth certificate is a பிறப்புச் சான்றிதழ், and the transfer certificate a student collects on leaving school is a மாற்றுச் சான்றிதழ்.

Why name a certificate platform Saandru?

Because the word puts proof before paper. A certificate is only worth what it proves. For a long time the proof lived on the sheet itself: the letterhead, the signature, the embossed seal. Those were hard to fake on paper. They are easy to copy once every certificate is a PDF.

A certificate should be able to stand as proof on its own, long after the ceremony is over.

Saandru moves the proof off the sheet and into a record the issuer keeps. Every certificate carries a QR code that opens that record, so anyone holding a copy, on paper or on screen, can check it in a few seconds. The name says what the product is for.

There is a plainer reason too. We build in India, for Indian institutions first, and a Tamil name keeps that in view. You do not need to speak Tamil to use Saandru. The product is in English, and a certificate issued in Coimbatore can be verified by an employer in Toronto.

The mark is the Tamil letter சா (saa), the first syllable of Saandru, in white on a navy tile. Beneath it sits a gold dot. That dot is the seal: the stamp that turns a printed sheet into a certificate.

On our website the wordmark shifts between Saandru and சான்று, the same name in two scripts. It is a small reminder that the product and the word mean the same thing.

What does Saandru do?

Saandru is a certificate issuing platform. In five steps:

  1. Design a template in the visual designer, start from a starter template, or describe one to the AI template studio.
  2. Upload a CSV of recipients and match its columns to placeholders such as name and course.
  3. Issue. Saandru renders a PDF for every row and signs each record with HMAC-SHA256.
  4. Deliver by email, with a verification link that recipients can share or add to LinkedIn.
  5. Verify. Anyone scans the QR code and sees the issuer, recipient, date and status on certificon.gemscorp.app.

If you want the detail behind step five, read Digital certificates explained and QR code certificate verification.

  • Colleges and universities, for course completion, value-added courses, workshops and convocation.
  • Training institutes and coaching centres, where every certificate is also a piece of marketing.
  • Companies running onboarding, compliance and skills training.
  • Event teams issuing participation, volunteer, speaker and winner certificates for hackathons, conferences and workshops.

Our first client is Sri Shanmugha Educational Institutions (SSEI). For why verification matters in each of these settings, read Why verifiable certificates matter.
